Filming in Regina was a hooot! Seriously, I met some lovely actors and worked with an awesome director and crew. My spy skills have never been better! That being said, I couldn’t wait to get back to the voice action here in T.O. I had two wonderful coaching sessions today. Both students made me laugh, a lot. These gals are pushing themselves in directions they haven’t been before. It’s very exciting stuff.

I’m off to Regina, Saskatchewan for a few days to shoot an episode of a new CBC show called Insecurity. I play an undercover government spy! Hiyah!

This week it was my turn to record a voice demo! It was time for an update people. It’s really important to keep your work fresh and exciting at every stage of your career. Your reel is like a portfolio, so you want that portfolio to reflect the new and exciting stuff that you’re working on. On this updated version of my voice demo, I played around with speech impediments and a couple spots where I play spoofy reporter/news anchor types. Have a listen and let me know what you think! I’m delighted to share that one of my student’s Sara-Clare Lajeunesse has booked her first voice gig! Starting in September, Sara-Clare will be playing the lead role of Dana in the upcoming animated series The 99 which will be airing on The Hub in the US sometime next year. This gal is full of energy and knows how to have fun in the booth. You can check out her VPS voice demo (featured on the demo page) that we recorded only a few short months ago. Way to go SC! I feel like a proud mama!

last weekend’s workshop: update

Saturday’s workshop went off without a G20 hitch! Seriously, everybody arrived on time and made it home safely afterwards. I definitely detected a little extra something in the studio air, maybe it was because of all the action that was just about to take place down the street. Either way, I was totally impressed by the amazing improv happening in the booth and the exploration of sounds, accents and characters. People were pushing themselves to try stuff they didn’t know or think they could do. That kinda voice action excites me.

Tomorrow is a workshop day and I’m super pumped despite the potential G20 madness that may ensue. We’ll have to give ourselves extra time to get to the studio in the morning and have fun even if there are swarms of protestors outside. Let’s do this people!
